Release Date:

On September 6th, the 2023 International Energy Transformation Forum, jointly organized by the National Energy Administration, the People's Government of Jiangsu Province, and the International Renewable Energy Agency, opened in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, China. The forum's theme was "Collaborative Energy Transformation for a Shared Green Future." Attendees at the opening ceremony, both online and offline, included Zhang Jianhua, Director of the National Energy Administration; Xu Kunlin, Governor of Jiangsu Province; Francesco La Camera, Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency; and Alisha Hana, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Zhang Jianhua introduced the achievements of China's energy revolution in the past decade and the important measures for China's next steps in promoting green and low-carbon energy transformation. He also proposed important initiatives to further promote global energy transformation cooperation. He emphasized that since General Secretary Xi Jinping proposed the "Four Revolutions, One Cooperation" new energy security strategy in 2014, China has steadfastly advanced energy revolution, achieved significant development in clean energy, accelerated the clean and efficient use of energy, and implemented energy reform and innovation, making an increasingly prominent contribution to global energy transformation. He emphasized that addressing challenges such as climate change and energy crises requires global consensus, enhanced cooperation in clean and efficient energy use, cooperation in clean and low-carbon energy development, energy technology innovation cooperation, and global energy governance and security cooperation, all aimed at jointly achieving the United Nations' 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.

The forum brought together over 2,000 high-level representatives, including political leaders, energy ministers, ambassadors to China, and senior officials from 20 countries and regions, as well as heads and senior representatives from nine international energy organizations, Chinese and foreign energy enterprises, research institutions, and industry associations. They engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as building global clean energy partnerships, energy transformation cooperation approaches, new technologies, models, and policies for clean energy, and global energy green transformation under energy security goals. This further solidified consensus on green transformation development and contributed to the global energy transformation and sustainable development.

In 2014, General Secretary Xi Jinping creatively proposed the "Four Revolutions, One Cooperation" new energy security strategy. In June 2022, General Secretary Xi Jinping presided over the Global Development High-Level Dialogue, proposing the establishment of a global clean energy partnership. The 2023 International Energy Transformation Forum aims to comprehensively implement the important instructions and directives of General Secretary Xi Jinping on energy revolution. During the forum, a themed exhibition on "China's Energy Revolution's Tenth Anniversary" was held, the International Energy Transformation Alliance was launched, and a series of achievements, including a themed video "Energy Revolution: China in Action," the "Global Clean Energy Partnership Initiative," and the "Energy Transformation Index Blue Book" report, were released. These accomplishments laid a solid foundation for advancing practical cooperation in global clean energy.
